Every 2 years, the SIHI Secretariate sets out to identify new or unknown social innovations in health across Latin America and the Caribbean. The methodology we use to identify these innovations, is crowdsourcing. By means of a public crowdsourcing campaign, open to all individuals and organizations, we are able to solicit applications. For each of our biennial crowdsourcing campaigns, we select a specific health theme. With the help of an internal and external expert review panel, we assess all submitted applications against a campaign criteria, informed by the theme. In each call, we select several and recognize regionally representative innovations– social innovations with strong learning and scaling potential, as well as honorary mentioned innovations.
From 2017 – 2023, SIHI LAC has identified 267 projects across 22 countries in Latin America and the Caribbean. We have recognized 15 innovations.
