SEARCHING FOR INNOVATIVE HEALTH SOLUTIONS

ARE YOU OR DO YOU KNOW OF ANY PERSON, ORGANISATION, OR COMMUNITY THAT IS SUCCESSFULLY IMPLEMENTING A COMMUNITY BASED SOLUTION TO IMPROVE THE HEALTH IN MALAWI OR RWANDA?

 

WE ARE LOOKING FOR INNOVATIVE LOCAL SOLUTIONS FOCUSED ON CLIMATE CHANGE WHICH ARE BEING IMPLEMENTED TO COMBAT ITS IMPACTS ON HEALTH.

 

WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

 

Whether you are a health worker, a community member, an entrepreneur, a student, a public health worker, a government worker, or from a private, public or non profit organisation, we want to learn from your solution!

 

Solutions could be a new service, a new practice or process, a new technology.

 

You may not think your work is innovative, but if it is providing a creative approach to an existing problem, it likely is. Tell us about it!

WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

Your solution is eligible if it meets the following conditions:

Focus of the solution

Creative ways to combat the impact of climate change on health either through promoting access and equity to healthcare, sustainable partnerships, resilience and adaptation, nature based solutions, transfer of skills and knowledge among others

Country of implementation

Malawi OR Rwanda

Duration of implementation

A minimum of 1-year implementation and currently being implemented

Social innovations

We are looking for solutions created with people and implemented with their participation. These solutions must increase the capacity of the community or participants.  We are not looking for scientific solutions such as drugs or advanced medical devices.

Timely completion of application form

Applications will only be considered where the application form has been completed in its entirety and submitted before the due date.

HOW YOU CAN BENEFIT

 

We are looking to learn from your solution, such that these lessons can be shared with other countries in Africa, but also globally. You can benefit in several ways:

Opportunity to learn, expose and share - We will be sharing your work through our SIHI network. We will learn about your innovation and produce an advocacy material.

Membership - Join our Community of Stakeholders in Social Innovation in Health in Africa. This community is a space for interaction and connection with other innovators and actors in the region.

Recognition by the Social Innovation in Health Initiative’s hubs (SIHI Malawi and Rwanda), the Ministry of Health, and the World Health Organization (WHO).

Participation in training courses – SIHI Malawi and Rwanda Hub will offer different courses in which you will have the opportunity to participate.

Publication of your solution online or in scientific journals.

HOW WILL MY SOLUTION BE ASSESSED?

 

Each solution will be reviewed by at least two of the experts on the selection panel according to the following criteria.

Appropriateness of the solution to the need

The solution addresses a health priority and a gender related response

Degree of innovativeness

The solution presents a creative, unconventional, or new approach as compared to the status quo.

Inclusiveness

The solution has the potential to enhance equity and access in health, especially for the most excluded or marginalised.

Affordability

The solution is affordable to those excluded in the local context and presents a more cost-effective alternative as compared to the status quo.

Effectiveness

The solution has the potential to achieve a positive outcome on the health of the local population AND enhances the capacities of the local population.

Scalability

Feasibility for the solution to be applied, replicated and scaled-up to other communities with similar problems.

Sustainability

The solution has the possibility to be sustained and has demonstrated sustainability has been considered.

Participation and co-creation

A participatory approach is evident in the development, implementation, and evaluation of the solution (i.e. contributions from various stakeholders: the patients/families, local health personnel, local leaders.

Systems-change

The solution has the potential to bring transformation within the health or social system.
