The Social Innovation in Health Initiative (SIHI) Hub in Nigeria based at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Health, the Federal Ministry of Science & Technology, and TDR, the Special Programme for Research and Training in Tropical Disease, is looking for health solutions that are supporting/contributing to the achievement of health-related SDGs in Nigeria.

 

We want to recognise creative solutions that improve access and quality of healthcare delivery for Nigerians and improve the diagnosis, treatment or prevention of infectious diseases in Nigeria.

 

You stand to benefit in many ways and join the global community of like-minded innovators and partners.

 

We believe your innovative solution has the power to transform our health system!

WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

We are looking for individuals – health workers, students, citizens, entrepreneurs – or organisations – NGOs, companies, universities, hospitals, government departments who have developed a creative solution to a problem in healthcare delivery.

 

The solution could be a new service, product, practice, process and policy.

 

You may not think your work is innovative, but if it is addressing a problem differently and making an impact, then your solution is innovative!

Your solution is eligible if it meets the following conditions:

Focus of the solution

Improving access to health care

Improving quality of health care

Improving the diagnosis, treatment or prevention of infectious diseases

Country of implementation

Nigeria

Duration of implementation

Operational for more than a 1-year. We are not looking for new ideas but existing solutions.

Social innovations

The solution is not a medical or scientific innovation (drugs, devices, etc) as we don’t consider this social innovation. Read more about what is social innovation.

Timely completion of application form

The application has been fully completed. All incomplete forms will be excluded).

HOW YOU CAN BENEFIT

 

Your solution can help improve the healthcare system in Nigeria and other nations. Imagine what we can achieve together.

You can benefit in several ways:

Recognition - (by Nnamdi Azikiwe University, the Anambra State Ministry of Health and TDR, Special Programme for Research and Training in Tropical Disease - hosted at the World Health Organization).

Documentation - Your solution will be studied by researchers and they will produce a case study

Sharing - (We will share your solution across Nigeria as well as internationally through the SIHI Partner Network).

Learning – You will be invited to attend various workshops and learning sessions for innovators.

Community - You will become part of the growing SIHI community of innovators.

SELECTION CRITERIA

 

All eligible solutions will be submitted to the expert review panel and each solution will be reviewed by at least two members of the panel according to the following criteria:

Appropriateness of the solution to the need

The approach addresses a healthcare delivery challenge that specifically deals with an infectious disease of poverty or could be applicable to this disease group.

Degree of innovativeness

The approach is new, different or a significant improvement within the context to which it is being applied.

Inclusiveness

The approach has the potential to be used by a large number of people, enhancing equity and access.

Affordability

The solution is affordable by the poor who are otherwise excluded in the local context or the solution is more cost-effective than the status quo.

Effectiveness

The solution has a demonstrated positive outcome on the health of the local population.

Scalability

Within and across cultural, resource and environmental contexts, the solution can be applied to reach many more people.

Sustainability

The financial, organizational and market aspects of the solution are sustainable.
