Thank you for your interest in sharing your solution with the Social Innovation in Health Initiative, Malawi (SIHI). Below you will find answers to some frequently asked questions by innovators.

WHAT IS A SOCIAL INNOVATION IN HEALTH?

A social innovation in health is merely a creative solution to a problem. It is a solution that has been created to solve a health care delivery problem in a new or different way. The solution has made health care delivery more accessible, effective and affordable for people in the community.  It also has the potential to positively affect relationships within a community and restore hope to people.

WHO IS SIHI?

SIHI is a global network of individuals, organizations and institutions passionate about social innovation in health. The network was established in 2014 through the joint efforts of the University of Cape Town’s Bertha Centre for Social Innovation and Entrepreneurship, the University of Oxford’s Skoll Centre for Social Entrepreneurship, and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. In 2017, the network was extended to include three new universities in the global south: The University of Malawi’s College of Medicine; Makerere University’s School of Public Health, and the University of the Philippines’ School of Medicine. SIHI is made possible through the support of Special Programme for Research and Training in Tropical Diseases, hosted at the World Health Organization.

SIHI partners combine their skills and resources in support of key activities to promote social innovation in health. Their united effort provides leadership to advance social innovation in health in developing countries with the aim to advance towards the Sustainable Development Goals and improve the lives of communities in Africa, Asia and Latin America.
